How the calculation works
The math behind audiobook speed is simple division. Your new listening time is the original length divided by the playback speed, and the time you save is the difference between the two:
New listening time = original length ÷ playback speed
Time saved = original length − new listening time
For example, a 10-hour audiobook at 1.5x speed takes 10 ÷ 1.5 = 6.667 hours, or 6 hours and 40 minutes. That saves you 3 hours and 20 minutes — about 33% of your listening time. The same book at 2x drops to exactly 5 hours, and at 1.25x it takes 8 hours.
